Mask Donations

As the COVID-19 pandemic began, SSAMO wanted to help in an impactful and meaningful way. We rallied volunteers to donate masks to local cancer organizations and hospitals for patients and their families. To date, we donated over 350 masks to the Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook, Illinois, NorthShore University HealthSystem, Advocate Condell Medical Center and North Shore Senior Center.

You know it’s funny, I was just making more masks while listening to the Daily Show from the NYTimes on NPR. The host was interviewing a twelve-year-old girl who lost her grandfather to the virus. And, it hit me how a mask I made might enable someone to go outside or see a loved one at a distance, when they couldn’t have otherwise, and I got really proud of what I’ve been doing...that is really can make a difference to other people.

Meal Donation

We also donated a dinner for families staying at the Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavilion in Baltimore, Maryland, which provides temporary short-term housing options for cancer patients and their caregivers. Their kitchen was unable to be used during COVID-19, so they are relying heavily on food donations for their residents.
